The University of Washington is listed at No. 7 on the Reuters Top 100: The World’s Most Innovative Universities, released Wednesday. Now in its third year, the list ranks the educational institutions doing the most to advance science, invent new technologies and help drive the global economy.

The UW is the top-ranked U.S. public institution on the list.

“Our University is steeped in a spirit of innovation, and that culture permeates everything we do, from biomedical advances to public policy research. It’s gratifying to see the excellence of our faculty, students and staff, and the impact of innovation in and beyond our campuses, recognized in this way,” said UW President Ana Mari Cauce.

Reuters’ ranking relies exclusively on empirical data such as patent filings and research paper citations specifically from 2010 to 2015, the publication reported.

The UW has ranked in the top 10 since the ranking began in 2015.

The Reuters ranking comes on the heels of the Times Higher Education world university ranking, which placed the UW at No. 25, fourth among U.S. public institutions, and the 2017 Academic Ranking of World Universities from the Center for World-Class Universities of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, which was released last month and ranked the UW No. 13, third among U.S. public institutions.
