Arts Roundup: ArtVenture, Music of Max Reger – and Jessica Lang Dance

This week in the arts: the Henry Art Gallery invites families and children to create their own portraits, and Meany Center for the Performing Arts presents performances by Jessica Lang Dance and the Imani Winds. The School of Music celebrates the music of composer Max Reger with a two-day symposium and kicks off this year’s Barry Lieberman and Friends series with a recital by bassist Ted Botsford.

Symposium: Music Of Max Reger
November 11-12 | St. Mark’s Cathedral + Brechemin Auditorium
The School of Music presents a symposium celebrating the music of German composer Max Reger in partnership with St. Mark’s Cathedral. Events and performances during this two-day celebration will take place both in Brechemin Auditorium on the UW Campus and at St. Mark’s Cathedral on Capitol Hill. More info.

Artventure: Portrait Party With Grey Ellis And Pamela Santiago

The Henry Art Gallery invites families and children to explore and create together at its monthly ArtVenture. In November, participants will learn how Chuck Close captured the tiniest details of his friends’ faces to create larger-than-life portraits—and then create a portrait of their favorite person without showing their face. A solo recital by Seattle Symphony bassist Ted Botsford kicks off the 2016-17 Barry Lieberman and Friends series, which includes master classes and recitals by noted performers, young innovators and rising classical music stars. More info.

North America’s premiere wind quintet, known for its dynamic playing and inspirational youth outreach programs, brings a program of music by Piazzolla, Mozart, Rimsky-Korsakov and more to Meany Hall. More info.
