Arts Roundup: Lectures, exhibitions — and pianist Olga Kern

This week, the UW World Series presents Russian pianist Olga Kern and the School of Art concludes its Critical Issues in Contemporary Art public lecture series.  Other events include a free UW Campus Philharmonia concert in Kane Hall and the final weekend of the School of Drama’s “The Hostage.”

Factory Showroom “Fixing the Future –Technics and Time”
Through April 11 | Jacob Lawrence Gallery
Visit the Jake to see the fourth show in the gallery’s Factory Series. The series is organized to explore the question, “Is a school a factory?” This show extends beyond the previous three themes with works exploring temporality, methodology, capitalism, and facticity. More info.

Olga Kern

Recognized as one of her generation’s great pianists, Kern was born into a family of musicians with direct links to Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff. With her vivid stage presence, confident musicianship and technique, the young Russian pianist continues to captivate fans and critics alike. More info.

Graduate conductor Tigran Arakelyan conducts UW Campus Philharmonia, featuring works by Mozart, Schubert and Rossini. More info.

Critical Issues in Contemporary Art Public Lecture Series

The Division of Art within the School of Art + Art History + Design hosts its final lecture in the annual public lecture series at the Henry Art Gallery. Speakers are Liz Craft and Pentti Monkkonen from Los Angeles. More info.

Directed by third-year Master of Fine Art directing candidate Tina Polzin, this School of Drama production masks topical politics and serious discourse with slapstick, satire and musical numbers. More info.

The ensemble advances diversity in classical music and inspires new and young audiences with dynamic performances of cutting-edge repertoire by a wide range of composers. The quartet combines a serious commitment to education with a passion for contemporary works. More info.
