Teachers sought for storytelling event

News and Information

Are you a UW alum or other local educator who’s passionate about your work and willing to talk publicly about it?

The UW College of Education and the Seattle Times are hosting a storytelling event at the university on Feb. 25 and are looking for a handful of teachers to share five-minute personal stories onstage.

To be considered, call the Seattle Times at 206-464-2057 and leave a two-minute, condensed version of your story and your full name, phone number and email address. The stories with the best chance of being picked will address one of the following points:

  • When did you know you were a good teacher? How did you learn what good teaching means?
  • Describe a powerful moment when you realized you had gotten through to a student.
  • Did you ever think about quitting teaching? If so, what kept you in the classroom?

Callers are also required to fill out a short registration form. The deadline for submissions is Friday, Feb. 13 at 5 p.m. Chosen speakers will be notified by Feb. 18 and must be available to attend the event, which will be recorded.

The event will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, in Kane Hall 220 and is the third storytelling evening the UW and the Times have hosted. The first two focused on students who had overcome challenges to attending college.

If you’re not ready to share your story but want to attend the free event, you can RSVP online. If you have questions, contact the Times’ community engagement editor, Caitlin Moran, at 206-464-3226 or emailĀ cmoran@seattletimes.com.
