L.J. LaVecchia, a sophomore pre-engineering student, is part of Flight Crew Jump Rope, based in Boise, Idaho. The troupe is among the acts the judges chose to move into the live, on-air part of the competition.

In the show, airing at 9 p.m. PDT tonight (Tuesday), the first 12 acts of the top 48 compete for one of five spots in the semifinals.

LaVecchia has been jumping rope competitively for 15 years, and joined Flight Crew when it formed two years ago.

“We want to show America how entertaining jump rope is and that it deserves to be on a stage in Vegas,” LaVecchia said via email.

In this video from an early round of America’s Got Talent, LaVecchia is the performer who “tunnels” under the others at the end.
