Accounting graduate named as next UW student regent

Gov. Jay Inslee has named Marnie Brown, a recent University of Washington accounting graduate who will return next year to pursue a master’s degree, as the next student member of the UW Board of Regents. The appointment is effective July 1.

Marnie BrownBrown, an Olympia native, is a third-generation Husky and has been active in campus matters since her freshman year. She has worked as a campus tour guide, served on the University Book Store board of trustees, and was vice chair of the university’s Services and Activities Fee Committee.

“Marnie is an excellent fit for this position,” Inslee said. “Her deep involvement in campus activities and issues is exactly what we look for in a student regent. She will play an essential role providing a student perspective and I look forward to her efforts to ensure the University of Washington is providing students a world-class educational experience.”

Brown has worked as a financial analyst for Amazon.com Inc. on the Kindle Device and Accessories Team, and this summer she will take part in a global tax internship with the professional services firm Ernst & Young.

She will take up her student regent duties as she begins work on a master’s degree in professional accounting in taxation.
