News and Information

The University of Washington has been ranked 13th best value among public colleges and universities for 2014 by Kiplinger’s Personal Finance. The ranking includes measures of economic value and educational quality.

Last year, the UW was ranked 17th.

Kiplinger’s data shows that the cost for in-state students, after need-based aid, was $10,355 per year. Average debt at graduation was $20,800.

The UW was ranked 18th best value for out-of-state students at $29,929 per year after need-based aid.

The rankings take into account admission rate, student-faculty ratio, the freshman retention rate and the four-year graduation rate.  Cost criteria include overall student expenses, financial aid (excluding loans) and average debt at graduation.

The annual rankings appear in Kiplinger’s Feb. 2014 issue.
