The newly designed University of Washington vehicle license plate is now available for sale from the state Department of Licensing. The new Husky plate design features a bold gold block “W” on a solid purple background.

A purple UW license plate. The purple Husky plate can be ordered at any Washington state vehicle licensing office. A full $28 of each Husky plate fee is returned to the UW each year as a tax-deductible donation to the UW General Scholarship Fund (visit a local vehicle licensing office for total fees for UW plates).  Since 2006, when the previous UW license plate was made available, more than $1.165 million been raised in support of student scholarships from the license plate program.

Vehicle owners do not have to wait until their current plates come up for renewal before ordering the new UW license plate. The Husky license plate application can be downloaded from the Department of Licensing website. The completed application can then be mailed or delivered in person to the department.

Those who currently have UW numbered or personalized plates can get the same number or message on the new purple plates by visiting a Department of Licensing office to replace the current UW plates. The department will charge a replacement fee to retain a current message or number.

“The fact that all of this statewide pride culminates in scholarship support for thousands of Husky students each year is what makes this program so remarkable,” said Connie Kravas, UW vice president for University Advancement.”
