UW ranked 25th best university in world

The University of Washington was ranked 25th best university in the world according to The Times Higher Education Rankings for 2013-14.

Universities were ranked on 13 elements, divided into five categories:

  • Teaching
  • Research
  • Citations (a reference contained in a research publication)
  • Industry income
  • International outlook

The UW was also ranked 12th in clinical, preclinical and health, 25th in life sciences and 18th in physical sciences.

Caltech was ranked first overall and Harvard second. Of the top 20 schools, 15 are from the United States. The highest ranking American public university is the University of California, Berkeley at eighth. Only three U.S. public universities – Berkeley, UCLA and Michigan – ranked above the UW.

The Times’ (of London) methodology was developed in partnership with Thomson Reuters, with consultation from more than 50 leaders in higher education.

The University of Washington has been ranked 16th in the Academic Ranking of World Universities by Shanghai Jiao Tong University and 13th nationally by Washington Monthly.
