Kientz is honored for her work in computer software. Her research looks at how technology can be used to support health and education. In particular, she has developed prototype applications to monitor sleep disorders, assist parents in tracking early developmental progress, and help special-education teachers who work with autistic children.

Kientz also serves as an adjunct assistant professor in the UW Information School and Department of Computer Science & Engineering. She will be featured in the magazine’s September/October print edition and honored at an October conference held at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Recent Innovators Under 35 honorees from the UW include Shwetak Patel, an associate professor of computer science and engineering and of electrical engineering who is married to Kientz, and Abraham Flaxman, an assistant professor of global health.
