UW ranked 24th in the world in new study

The University of Washington was ranked 24th best university in the world and the fourth-ranked American public university according to The Times Higher Education Rankings.

The University of California, Berkeley, was the top public American university (9th), followed by The University of California, Los Angeles, and the University of Michigan.

Universities were ranked on 13 elements, divided into five categories:

  • Teaching
  • Research
  • Citations
  • Industry income
  • International outlook

The Times’ (of London) methodology was developed in partnership with Thomson Reuters, with consultation from more than 50 leaders in higher education.

The California Institute of Technology was ranked #1; 15 of the top 20 universities are from the United States.

The UW was 25th in last year’s rankings. The UW also was recently ranked 16th in the world in a study by Shanghai Jiao Tong University and 8th by Washington Monthly.
