Rideshare Mixer meant to help you find, create a carpool or vanpool

News and Information

Interested in joining a University of Washington carpool or vanpool or starting your own?

The first Rideshare Mixer next Tuesday – complete with free snacks, bowling and prizes in the newly renovated HUB games area – will provide tips from folks who already share their rides as well as information from UW Transportation Services, Metro Transit and Community Transit about how to get started. And it’s a great way to meet other UW people going your way.

“Hopefully you’ll meet some people who you’d like to start a new carpool or vanpool with since both are great ways to save on gas, parking and time when commuting to campus,” said Sara Brydges, UW’s RideShare coordinator.

Graphic Rideshare mixer Fall 2012With major bus route cuts coming at the end of month, some UW bus riders may need alternatives. For example, Metro is cutting routes that served the U District from Burien (Route 133), Queen Anne Hill (45) and Ballard/Fremont (46).

“Ridesharing is a way to create your own ‘buses’ from these areas,” Brydges said.

Anyone who currently shares rides to and from campus is also welcome to drop by the event 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 18. Like mixers from junior high days, this is meant to bring people together but, unlike the mixers of our youth, there will be too much going on for anyone to stand around looking at their feet, Brydges said. Along with bowling, the HUB games area offers pool, ping pong and Xbox and Wii games.

Prizes, listed with their sponsors on the Rideshare Mixer Facebook page, will be handed out during the events.
