Kathryn Sharpe is not only a communications specialist for UW Information Technology, she’s also an experienced artist whose work is being exhibited in UW Tower’s Mezzanine Gallery. She’s a highlight in an otherwise rather slow, summery week for UW arts.

Sharpe writes in an artist statement that she has studied art with several well-known UW names. “I took Northwest Coast Indian art with Duane Pasco and Bill Holm, oil painting and color theory with Norman Lundin, who helped me appreciate modern art, and digital photography with Paul Berger.” A longtime UW employee, she has worked in several departments on campus.

Sharpe’s art will be on view at UW Tower through Sept. 28. She will spend time working on watercolor paintings in the gallery space about once a week during the exhibit, and says she looks forward to discussing the painting and creative process with visitors. These sessions are scheduled for noon on August 17 and 22; and September 14, 18 and 27.
