News Digest: Free dental screening for kids, Honor: James DeLisle

News and Information

Free dental screening for children June 9
The Center for Pediatric Dentistry will hold a free dental screening 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, June 9, for children ages 1 through 18. No reservations are necessary and there is free parking at the center, which is located at Magnuson Park in Seattle.

Every child will receive a free brief dental screening to identify potential trouble spots in the mouth. No X-rays will be taken.

This event provides a “first visit” opportunity for very young children and their parents or caregivers. Theyll tour the center, meet dentists and dental assistants and experience how an exam is carried out. Theyll also see part of the 3-D interactive exhibit “Attack of the S. Mutans,” in which virtual guide Dentisha battles mouth bacteria, and there will be picture taking with the Tooth Fairy and Mr. Molar. Children will be given a mouth mirror, toothbrush, coloring sheets and sticker charts.

The Center for Pediatric Dentistry is a collaborative venture by the UW School of Dentistry and Seattle Childrens. It emphasizes the importance of early childhood dental health and dental visits by age 1.
