UW News

The University of Washington community will honor the life of Sgt. William (Will) Stacey in a public funeral service at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb.11, in Meany Hall.

An informal reception will follow in the lobby.

Will Stacey, 23, the son of Bob Stacey, interim dean of the College of Arts & Sciences; and history professor Robin Stacey, was killed in the line of duty while serving in Afghanistan on Jan. 31.

“My death did not change the world; it may be tough for you to justify its meaning at all,” Will Stacey wrote in a letter to his family that was published in the Seattle Times. “But there is greater meaning to it.” He concluded that letter writing, “If my life buys the safety of a child who will one day change this world, then I know that it was all worth it.”

Meany Halls doors will be open at 3:15 p.m. Directions and information on campus parking are online.
