University of Washington ranks 13th in world in measure of scientific prowess

The University of Washington was ranked 13th in the world in a measure of universities scientific impact and their involvement in scientific collaboration.

The ranking was conducted by the Centre for Science and Technology Studies of Leiden University in the Netherlands.

The new study does not rely on subjective measures of an institutions quality but is based on analysis of a large database of publications in the sciences and social sciences.

MIT ranked first in the study. The highest ranking U.S. public university was the University of California, Santa Barbara, at 7. Among ranked American public universities, the UW was 4th.
