UW Bothell womens conference to feature regional leaders

The University of Washington Bothell will host a conference focusing on issues that professional women face. The event, featuring women serving in key leadership positions in business, the medical and legal professions and the arts, will take place Friday, Oct. 28.

The day-long conference will include Washington Supreme Court Justice Mary E. Fairhurst; Fisher Communications CEO Colleen Brown; Pacific Northwest Ballet Principal Dancer Maria Chapman; UW School of Law Dean Kellye Testy; Boeing VP Fariba Alamdari; Denise Kraft, M.D.; and Professors Deborah Medlar, Alison Wylie and JoLynn Edwards.

According to Justice Fairhurst, “It is very important that women create opportunities to learn from one another, and share the strategies that have helped to bring them success. Huge strides have been made for women in the workplace in the last decades, but much more remains to be done.”

In the morning session, presenters will address historical and continuing barriers to entry, barriers to leadership, and the fundamental changes that have occurred for women in their respective professions. The afternoon session, consisting of conversations across professions, will articulate strategies for women moving ahead in professional leadership positions.
