UW is 25th best university in world in Times ranking

The University of Washington was ranked 25th best university in the world and the fifth-ranked American public university, according to The Times Higher Education Rankings.

Universities were ranked on 13 elements, divided into five categories:

  • Teaching
  • Research
  • Citations
  • Industry income
  • International outlook

The Times (of London) methodology was developed in partnership with Thomson Reuters, with consultation from more than 50 leaders in higher education.

California Institute of Technology was ranked #1; 14 of the top 20 universities are from the United States. The University of California, Berkeley, was the top public American university (10th).

The UW was 23rd in last years rankings.

The UW was ranked among the top 10 public American universities by US News & World  Report. It also was ranked 16th in the world in a study by Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
