UW News

Looking for some good live music near the UW? The Up Your Ave Music Festival will offer folk, jazz, soul, reggae, bluegrass, rock, ska, comedy — and even accordion music. The festival runs from Friday, Aug. 5, through Saturday, Aug. 13 at a number of locations throughout the University District.

Its sponsored by the Greater University Chamber of Commerce and features music at a number of venues, including the Neptune Theater, which has recently been remodeled as a performance hall.

Acts also will appear at the Café Allegro, University Heights Center, The District Lounge in the Hotel Deca, the Lucid Jazz Lounge, Shultzys, Big Time Brewery, Bulldog News and lots of other places, even the Goodwill store on the “Ave.”

Shewit Gebreberhan, program manager for the chamber, said this is the second year of the festival with this name; previously it was called AVEventure. He said its offered with new and returning UW students in mind. “It lets them know whats on the Ave, what spots they can go to for good food and what services are available.”

He said upwards of 1,500 people attended last year and they hope for as many this year. Most venues are all-ages. T-shirts will be given out.
