University Chorale, Gospel Choir to perform spring concerts
The University Chorale, under the direction of Giselle Wyers, will perform works by several composers in a concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 23, in Meany Hall. And the UW Gospel Choir will perform the same night at First Baptist Church in Seattle.

The UW Chorale will present Henry Purcells Anthem Welcome all the Pleasures that Resound; four songs from A Pushkin Garland by Georgy Sviridov; The Shower, by Edward Elgar; Hymne a. St. Martin, by Vaclav Augustinas; Sure on this Shining Night, by Morten Lauridsen (Jeremiah Selvey, conductor); and Five Flower Songs, by Benjamin Britten.
Wyers is assistant professor of choral studies and voice and teaches courses in voice, undergraduate choral conducting, graduate choral repertoire and music methods in addition to her work conducting the chorale.
As a composer, Wyers is currently preparing numerous choral works for premieres, including a commission by the renowned Netherlands chorus A Cappella Koor Cantabile. She will launch the “Giselle Wyers Choral Series” as part of Santa Barbara Music Publishing Company this spring. This series will feature works by Wyers and other emerging composers from across the globe.
Wyers is in frequent demand as a guest conductor of honor choirs across the United States. As a vocalist, she has recorded CDs with the Westminster Symphonic Choir, Oregon Repertory Singers, and Linda Ronstadt.

The UW Gospel Choir, 100 voices strong and under the longtime leadership of Phyllis Byrdwell, will perform its spring concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 23, at First Baptist Church, 1111 Harvard Ave., Seattle. There is no admission charge, but freewill offerings are accepted.
