School of Music offers concerts for lovers of harp, voice, guitar and new music
The air will be filled with sound of music, as the School of Music plunges into a busy season of concerts in coming days.

A harp and chamber music recital is scheduled at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 15, in Brechemin Auditorium. School of Music students perform selections by Ibert, Ravel, Anderson, Saint-Saëns, and a new work by doctoral student Megan Bledsoe. Students performing include Bledsoe, Graeme Smith, Brianna Spargo, Tomoko Numa, and Olivia Cacchione.
On Monday, May 16, UW voice students perform their spring concert recital. Among other works, the program features senior Nataly Wickham, soprano, in a world premiere performance of Birth, a newly discovered, unpublished manuscript by composer Amy Beach (1867-1944). Music Librarian Judy Tsou discovered the song last summer during a project to inventory uncatalogued manuscripts in the Music Library. She will deliver brief remarks about the song before Wickham’s performance.
The program also includes works by Roger Quilter, Leonard Bernstein, Lee Hoiby, Charles Griffes, Samuel Barber, and others. The concert is at 7:30 p.m. in Brechemin Auditorium.
There will be two concerts on Friday, May 20, both at 7:30 p.m.

In the Walker-Ames Room of Kane, Student composers present works for organ. Selections include Ontogenesis, by Yiğit Kolat, performed by Ah-ra Yoo; Réfractions pour Orgue Mécanique à Quatre Mains, by Jeremy T. Jolley, performed by Rose Whitmore and Jeremy T. Jolley; Concentricity, by Josh Archibald-Seiffer, performed by Laura Ouimette; and Diminution Cycle, by Jeff Bowen, performed by Susanna Valleau.
And in Brechemin Auditorium, students of Michael Partington present a program of music for guitar solo, duo, trio and quartet by Stepan Rak, Joaquin Rodrigo, Domenico Scarlatti, Andrew York, Ferdinando Carulli, Scott Joplin, Astor Piazzolla, Isaac Albeniz, Sergio Assad and Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, plus the aria from Bachianas Brasileiras Nr. 5 by Heitor Villa-Lobos with guest mezzo-soprano Nina Alden.
