POETRY EXTRA: When guitarist, vocalist, and composer Amancio Prada performs at Meany on April 30, attendees will receive a special booklet printed just for this event. Thats because the concert focuses on the poems of Federico Garcia Lorca set to music. The booklets will contain the Spanish poems/songs set alongside English translations. The translations were provided by the UW students of Spanish 408. Heres a sample of one poem/song, translated by Alicia Flint, Jourdan Fluke, Kristin Johnson, Kaitlin McCloskey, Caitlin Paige and Christine Young:
|The guitar begins
from shattered glasses.
The guitar begins
It cries monotonously
|It is impossible
to silence it.
It cries for things
lost and distant.
Hot sands of the South
