Why I chose UW Medicine: Convenient, personalized care from inspiring providers

UW Health Sciences/UW Medicine

I am a registered nurse for lactation services at UW Medical Center (UWMC), and am also a patient of Karen Carlson, advanced registered nurse practitioner, at the Women’s Health Care Center at UWMC – Roosevelt.  Ive been seeing Karen as a patient for 12 years. She is professional, smart and caring—a great listener and a great educator—and really easy to be with.  She is very thorough and up-to-date.

I love the womens health care center.  It is in a great location and in a beautiful building.  The clinic is well-organized, and the front desk staff are friendly and personable.  I appreciate that I can schedule my mammogram on the same day as my physical, and get both done right there in the same building.

Karen has helped me to increase my activity and lose weight, too.  I’m inspired by how well she takes care of herself, and by the words she says to encourage me.  She never made me feel bad for being out of shape. Instead, she commiserated about how hard it is to find the time to exercise.

She shared how she finds time to run, and encouraged me by saying that one of the side effects is the positive mental health benefit. She even told me the name of an outlet store where I could find running shoes. Karen conveyed that we were in this together. She had the attitude that if she could do it, I could too. I’ve lost more than 30 pounds since starting to get my health care at the Women’s Health Care Center.
