Meet the force: UW Police Open House April 13 in Bryants Building

The Percussion Ensemble will perform May 29 in Meany Studio Theater.

You can meet members of the UW Police and learn about their work at the UW Police Open House, 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, in Room 111 of the Bryants Building. The campus community is invited, and the event is free

Light refreshments will be provided, and the event will feature an announcement of the departments awards for officer, supervisor, employee of the year. Also, the first-ever DUI Officer of the Year award will be announced, and the Community Partner of the Year award will go to the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, for its philanthropic work.

The open house and reception will run from 2 to 3 p.m. At 3 p.m. there will be a welcome by UW Police Chief John Vinson, followed by announcements of the annual department awards. Tours of the station will be offered after that.
UWPD tables will offer information on recruitment as well as its incident prevention team, crime victim advocate, cadet program, rape defense class, registration program for bikes and electronics, accreditation and more. There also will be demonstrations of the UWPDs bomb detection dog, a tour of the Special Events Mobile Operations Center, the Fatal Vision (beer goggles) demonstration, and more.

Other tables will be staffed by UW Medical Center Public Safety, Emergency Management, Environmental Health & Safety, SafeCampus, Student Legal Services, the Wellness Resource Center, the North of 45th Community Organization, the Seattle Police Department Community Police Team, King County E-911 and the Special Olympics of Washington, for whom the UWPD raises money in its annual Polar Plunge.
