Pianist Garrick Ohlsson will perform at 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 16 at Meany Hall. He will play Polonaise, Op. 44; Four Mazurkas, Op. 41; Allegro de Concert, Op. 46; Nocturne, Op. 48, No. 1; and Ballade in G Minor, Op. 23, all by Chopin; and excerpts from Goyescas: Los Requiebros; El Fandango de Candil; Quejas o la Maja y el Ruisenor; and El Pelele, all by Granados.

Ohlsson has become well-known to Seattle audiences. This recital marks his 12th performance as part of the President’s Piano Series. The warm reception he has received each time is no surprise. Since his triumph as winner of the 1970 Chopin International Piano Competition, Ohlsson has established himself worldwide as a musician of magisterial interpretive and technical prowess. Although he has long been regarded as one of the worlds leading exponents of the music of Frédéric Chopin, Ohlsson commands an enormous repertoire, which ranges over the entire piano literature.

A native of White Plains, N.Y., Ohlsson began his piano studies at the age of 8. He attended the Westchester Conservatory of Music and at 13 entered The Juilliard School in New York City. Ohlsson was awarded the Avery Fisher Prize in 1994 and received the 1998 University Musical Society Distinguished Artist Award in Ann Arbor, MI. He makes his home in San Francisco.
