Double bassist to perform, give master class at School of Music

Scott Pingel, principal double bassist of the San Francisco Symphony, performs a concert at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 13 in Brechemin Auditorium. Molly Knight Forde, piano; Abbey Blackwell, bass; and the Quantum String Quartet (David Colmenares, Natalie Hall, Kouki Tanaka and Meeae Hong) will join him onstage.
The program includes Ricercars No. 7 and No. 3, by Domenico Gabrielli; Arie de Rondeau, by Alfred Desenclos; Concerto in D Major, by J.B. Vanhal; and Elegy, by Giovanni Bottesini.
Pingel is the former principal bassist of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra. He has performed with the Metropolitan Opera, the Metamorphosen Chamber Orchestra, the St. Lawrence String Quartet, two years with the New World Symphony, and served as guest principal of the National Arts Center Orchestra in Canada. Additionally, he has participated in the Bellingham, Tanglewood, Spoleto, Verbier, and Salzburg festivals. Outside of classical music, Pingel has worked with jazz greats such as Michael Brecker, Geoff Keezer and the late James Williams, performed with pop icon Madonna, and played in an opening act for Tito Puente.

Pingel will also lead a master class with students of Barry Lieberman at noon on Saturday, March 12, in Brechemin Auditorium. The master class is free and open to the public.
