Founder and chairman of X PRIZE Foundation to visit Evans School

Dr. Peter Diamandis, who founded the X PRIZE Foundation, will lead a public conversation on the prize Monday, March 7, at the Evans School of Public Affairs.
The foundation sponsors big-money competitions aimed at breakthroughs for humanity. In 2004, the foundation awarded the $10 million Ansari prize for the first private space flight. The Evans School and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology sponsor laboratories that are developing new X prizes in fields such as energy, education, medicine, water technology, environmental preservation and global development.
Diamandis, chairman and chief executive officer of the foundation, received an undergraduate degree in molecular genetics and a graduate degree in aerospace engineering from MIT. He subsequently received a medical degree from Harvard Medical School.
The Evans School gathering will begin at 4 p.m. in the Parrington Hall forum (Room 309). Conversation will focus on the role of competition in government, philanthropy and corporate innovation.
