‘Jazz Innovations: Back-to-back nights of jazz March 2, 3

Student jazz ensembles coached by Marc Seales, Cuong Vu, Tom Collier, and Luke Bergman will pay homage to the icons of jazz and break new ground with original progressive jazz compositions in Jazz Innovations I and II, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, March 2 and 3, in Brechemin Auditorium.

The two evenings of music will include works by Carla Bley, Jackie Mclean, Pat Metheny, Michael Brecker, Colin Pulkrabek, Brennan Carter, Cameron Sharif, Mark Hunter, Andy Short, Adele Adkins, Amina Figueroa, Carl Allen, Tim Berne, Aphex Twin, and David Binney.

Students performing coached by Seales will be Gus Carns on piano, Carmen Rothwell on bass, Bryan Van Pelt on sax, Evan Woodle on drums and Ray Larsen on trumpet. Students coached by Vu will be Brennan Carter on trumpet, Levi Gillis on tenor sax, Colin Pulkrabek on trombone, Mark Hunter on bass, Jarred Katz on drums and Cameron Sharif on piano.

Those coached by Collier will be Eric Vanderbilt-Mathews on alto sax, Sam Hylton on piano, Andy Short on electric guitar; James Prow on electric bass and Dan O’Neil on drums. Those coached by Bergman will be MeeSun Hong on piano, Abi Kalkura on tenor sax, Sam Wallen on alto sax, Dune Butler on bass and Michael Beswetherick on drums.
