ADVANCING EDUCATION: The UW snagged a number of awards in the annual District VIII competition of the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). The alumni magazine Columns website earned a gold award in the Periodicals category. Credit went to Paul Fontana, Mark Stewart, Julie Case, Jon Marmor, Michele Locatelli and Jenica Wilkie. Also winning gold, in the Projects and Programs category, was the Great Wall of Us, with UW Marketing together with Sound Transit getting the credit. Marketing also won a gold in the Fund Raising and Special Audience Publications category for the UW Recognition Gala.

The other UW awards were all bronzes. UW Marketing picked up one in the Projects and Programs category for the Husky Promise Awareness Campaign. Also winning in that category was the Fostering Leadership TV Program and the “Expect the Unexpected” Student Awareness Campaign. Credit for the former went to John Haslam, Pamela McCoy, Bruce Avolio, Greg Bigley, Pat Witt, Ann Coppel and Jake Ellison. Credit for the latter went to Kristine Matthews, Jessica Katona, Cassie Klingler, Karin Moughamer, MaryAnn Barron Wagner, Julia Swan and Julie Stein. Jeff Corwin, a freelance photographer, won in the Photography and Illustration category for a photo of Jason de Leon that appeared in Columns, while the Bonderman Travel Fellowship Fifteen Year Anniversary won in the Video and Multimedia Category. Credit for the latter went to Kirsten Atik, Filiz Efe, Brook Kelly, Erika Kreger, Suzanne Mercier, Helene Obradovich and Meredith Wisti.

CASE District VIII covers Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana, along with the western provinces of Canada.
