IN KINGS FOOTSTEPS: UW Tacoma History Professor Michael Honey was presented a Gandhi, King, Ikeda Community Builders Award by Lawrence Carter, dean of the MLK Chapel at Morehouse College, during UWTs celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. day last month. The award is for advancing Kings message of peace and justice. It is named for three peacemakers from different cultures — King, Mahatma Gandhi and Daisaku Ikeda. Honey has written extensively about Martin Luther King and his work.

FUTURE LEADER: UW graduate student Edmond Chang is one of eight students around the country to receive a K. Patricia Cross Future Leaders Award. This award recognizes graduate students who show exemplary promise as future leaders of higher education; who demonstrate a commitment to developing academic and civic responsibility in themselves and in others; and whose work reflects a strong emphasis on teaching and learning. The award is named in honor of K. Patricia Cross, professor of higher education, emerita, at the University of California, Berkeley. The award winners were chosen from a pool of more than 225 nominations.
