Construction begins on 15th Avenue NE

The Seattle Department of Transportation is beginning work to reconstruct 15th Avenue NE between NE Pacific Street and NE 55th Street. The roadway will remain open with one lane of traffic in each direction on weekdays.

On weekends, the roadway will be reduced to one lane northbound only. Southbound lanes will be closed at NE 45th Street and southbound traffic will be detoured via Brooklyn Avenue NE.  Drivers should consider choosing other alternate routes, as 15th Avenue NE and Brooklyn Avenue NE will likely experience heavy traffic. Work between NE Pacific Street and NE 45th Street will be ongoing until the beginning of June 2011.

During construction, expect significant traffic delays on 15th Avenue NE and plan extra time for your trips. Crews will be working 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays, and 24 hours a day on most weekends between January and June. No parking or loading will be allowed on 15th Avenue NE during construction. Parking will be intermittently prohibited on the intersecting streets as work progresses. Bus stops along 15th Avenue NE will be consolidated, and transit agencies will communicate any route changes to customers directly (see links below). Nearby residents and businesses should expect noise, dust, and nighttime light impacts.

The Seattle Department of Transportation is working closely with local government, institutions, community groups and businesses, as well as transportation agencies and other nearby construction projects. It will provide regular updates via e-mail, flyers, and the project website throughout construction of the project. To sign up for construction e-mail updates, send an e-mail to 15thAveNE@seattle.gov
