Annual holiday concert set for Dec. 7 in Meany Theater

The School of Musics annual Carolfest gets underway at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, in Meany Theater. The Chamber Singers, University Chorale, University Singers, Womens Choir, and UW Mens Glee Club will perform carols and seasonal music from around the world.

Twelve Days of Christmas

The University Chamber Singers, conducted Geoffrey Boers, will sing “O Come O Come Emmanuael,” by Bern Herbolsheimer; “Little Tree,” by Steven Heitzig, feturing Tomoko Numa on harp; and “Ding Dong Merrily on High,” as performed by the Dale Warland Singers.

The University Chorale, directed by Giselle Wyers, will sing “Transcendence,” by Ludwig Beethoven (arr. Robert Sieving); “Herr, auf dich traue ich,” by Heinrich Schutz; and” Magpie Chatter,” by Gyorgy Sviridov.

The Mens Glee Club, conducted by Steven Demorest, will sing “Gaudete,” from Piae Cantiones 1582; “Suo Gan,” (Welsh traditional); “Christmas Time is Here,” by Vince Guaraldi (arr. Deke Sharon); and “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer,” by Elmo & Patsy (arr. Demorest).

The UW Womens Choir, directed by Wendy Moy and accompanied by Melissa Thorne, will sing  “Mother, Please Explain,” a traditional French country song set by J. B. Weckerlin (arr. John Lewers);  “Mon Coeur Se Recommande A Vous,” by Orlando di Lasso (arr. Russell Robinson); “Tears, Idle Tears (from the Princess),” text by Tennyson, music by Gustav von Holst;  “For Good (from Wicked),” by Stephen Schwartz (arr. Mac Huff); “Love Came Down at Christmas,” by Edwin R. Fissinger (arr. Mary K. Geston); and  “Tomorrow Shall Be My Dancing Day,” (arr. John Rutter). The group will also feature dancer Sonja Erickson.

The University Singers, directed by Jeshua Franklin and accompanied by Hyokyoung Byun will sing “Sing dem Herrn,” by Michael Praetorius (arr. Wallace DePue); “Joyous Christmas (Chanson joyeuse de Noël),” by Françoise-Auguste Gevaert; “Light One Candle,” by Peter Yarrow (arr. Robert DeCormier); and “A la Puerta del Cielo,” a 16th Century Spanish Lullaby (arr. Audrey Snyder), featuring Kevin Dong, piano.
