Peace Corps director visits UW

News and Information

Aaron Williams, the director of the Peace Corps, is visiting the University of Washington Thursday and Friday, Nov. 18 and 19, to meet with faculty, staff, students and former Peace Corps volunteers.

Williams also will be the featured speaker at an event at 7 pm at Town Hall, sponsored by the World Affairs Council.

The UW is the number one producer of Peace Corps volunteers among universities. It currently has 101 alumni serving. Overall, more than 2,600 UW alumni have served as volunteers.

Williams will be presenting a certificate to UW President Phyllis Wise at halftime of the UW-UCLA football game in recognition of the UW’s prominence in sending alumni to the Peace Corps.

The UW has three Peace Corps master’s international programs, through which students spend a year on campus followed by two years working overseas on Peace Corps-related projects.
