University Chorale, Chamber Singers to unite for ‘Sound, Symbol and Space

The Chamber Singers and University Chorale will present their annual fall concert, Sound, Symbol and Space, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, in Meany Hall.

The Chamber Singers will be conducted by Geoffrey Boers, Mary K. Shepman Endowed Professor of Music and director of choral activities for the School of Music. The University Chorale will be directed by Giselle Wyers, assistant professor of choral studies and voice.

The Chamber Singers will perform Cantate Domino by Heinrich Schutz; Magnificat, by Arvo Part; Requiem by Herbert Howells; and Pater Noster by Giuseppe Verdi.

The University Chorale will perform Welcome Ye All the Pleasures, a Cecilian Anthem by Henry Purcell with strings and continuo; Russian movements from Pushkins Garland, by Georgy Sviridov, with choir and percussion; and Edward Elgars The Shower.

In addition, the choirs combine on William Hawley’s soundscape Two Motets.
