Meet the Mammals is included with museum admission and is free for Burke members. Learn more online at www.burkemuseum.org.
The Burke Museum invites the public to see, touch, and learn about the museum’s extraordinary collection of mammals at the annual Meet the Mammals family day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20. The Burke mammalogy collection represents all 29 orders of mammals on the planet — from aardvarks to zebras and many species in between.
Meet the Mammals is the only opportunity of the year for visitors to see hundreds of specimens from the mammalogy collection on display. Many of the specimens can be held or touched and mammal experts are on hand all day long to talk about the amazing diversity of mammals and answer questions.
Meet the Mammals is a family-friendly event with activities for kids and adults. From 11 a.m. — 1 p.m., patrons can meet and take pictures with the Mariner Moose. Throughout the day, they can assemble an orca skeleton with the Seattle Aquarium and try hands-on activities with Friday Harbor’s Whale Museum. Visit the current Burke exhibit Weaving Heritage and learn about how mammal wool is used to produce many of the clothes we wear.
