President Obama to address noon rally at Hec Edmundson Pavilion

President Barack Obama will speak at rally being held at noon Thursday, Oct. 21, at Hec Edmundson Pavilion.

The event is a political rally in support of Sen. Patty Murray. Rental of the facility and other associated costs are being paid by her campaign.

Doors will open at 9:30 a.m. at the pavilion. When the 10,000 seating capacity for that venue has been reached, Husky Stadium will be opened for the overflow crowd. It was uncertain at this writing whether President Obama will also visit the stadium.

Traffic in the Montlake corridor will be significant. Metro Transit will use stand-by coaches to add capacity to routes if they become overcrowded. Parking for event attendees will be limited and the campaign is encouraging those attending to use transit and active transportation. Road closures should be brief and only occur when the presidential motorcade is passing, according to UW Transportation Services

All UW offices will remain open as regularly scheduled on the day of the event, and classes and other instructional activities will be held as usual. Security will be tight. Staff wishing to attend must do so on their own time as arranged with their supervisor.
