Planning some catering? Learn about diverse caterers at Aug. 11 Business Diversity Connections event

If you are among those campus people who sometimes plan events involving food, you might want to check out the UW Business Diversity Connections Catering Event, from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, in the Walker-Ames Room, Kane.

The event, sponsored by the UW Business Diversity Program, is an opportunity to gain a better understanding of the capabilities of diverse and local caterers. Oh, and you also get to taste delicious samples and network with peers.

This is the third year the diversity program has offered a catering event. This year 15 firms will be represented, an increase over last year’s 12. Their cuisines vary, from Mama’s Brown Bag Lunches to Smokin’ Pete’s Barbecue to LeFournil French bakery , but all are either owned by minorities and/or women, or they are local.

“Food is the universal language,” noted Business Diversity Specialist Lynn Beck, “and we wanted to offer this opportunity to those on campus who plan events for their departments.” She said about 100 people came to the event last year.
