University of Washington and UAW reach new agreement

News and Information

The University of Washington and the United Auto Workers (UAW) Local 4121 have reached agreement on a new contract, which will cover teaching assistants, research assistants, readers, graders, and tutors. The contract is effective June 4, 2010 through April 30, 2011.

“The University and the UAW bargained in good faith since March of this year. I am pleased that we were able to work together in achieving a new contract in this difficult economic climate,” said Mindy Kornberg, vice president for human resources.

Like other University faculty and staff, academic student employees will not receive a wage increase this year. The new contract does provide that the University will cover the rising costs of tuition and health care.
