Percussion music, jazz coming from School of Music

World percussion music and jazz are among offerings in coming days from the UW School of Music.


The UW Percussion Ensemble will premiere two student compositions in World Percussion Bash, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, in Meany Studio Theater. The ensemble will play Symphony No. 1 for Percussion Ensemble, by Adam Page; and Clowns for the Weird Carnival by Steven Bell, as well as other selections. The UW Steel Drum Ensemble, directed by Shannon Dudley, also will perform.


Then the Studio Jazz Ensemble and the Modern Band, led by Cuong Vu, will perform big band arrangements, repertory selections and original music in a concert at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 2, in Meany Hall.


In this program, the Modern Band will perform an original, collectively conceptualized and composed piece titled Expansion, and the Studio Jazz Ensemble will perform an entire set of music by Duke Ellington.
