A musical week ahead on campus

If you’re looking for a little night music next week, there will be three concerts to choose from.

It all begins with a concert by the University Chorale, under the direction of Giselle Wyers, on Monday, May 24, in Meany Theater. The group performs selections from a recent concert tour to the Baltics, including a full performance of Durufle’s Requiem, with Hyun-a Choi, organist, and a set of madrigals by Thomas Weelkes, Thule the Period of Cosmography, and The Andalusian Merchant.

Composition faculty artist Huck Hodge and Jazz faculty artist Cuong Vu co-direct the UW Contemporary Group on Wednesday, May 26, in Meany Studio Theater. Program selections include an untitled improv/composition by Hodge and Vu; Cobra, by John Zorn; Pendulum, by Steve Reich with cello improvisation by guest David Balataro; and Workers Union, by Louis Andriessen, performed by the UW Percussion Ensemble.

On Thursday, May 27, the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and UW Choirs perform The Future of Fire, by Zhou Long; Our Enduring Spirit, by Stephen Michael Newby; Angels in the Architecture, by Frank Ticheli, featuring faculty artist Joyce Guyer, soprano; and Aspen Jubilee, by Ron Nelson. That concert is in Meany Theater.

All three concerts are at 7:30 p.m., and tickets for each are $10. They can be purchased at the Arts Ticket Office, 206-543-4880, or online here.
