‘Off-Track Profs’ author to speak, sign books at Bothell

UW Bothell will host noted author and academic Edie Goldenberg on campus Thursday, April 22. Goldenberg, a professor of political science and public policy at the University of Michigan’s Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy, will discuss her latest release, Off-Track Profs: The Rise of the Teaching Specialist in Higher Education (co-written with John Cross, MIT Press, 2009) and be available for book signings, 3:15 — 5 p.m. in the campus library, room 205.

Off-Track Profs examines the growth in the number of teaching faculty off the tenure track at 10 distinguished universities, identifies the forces driving the trend and the consequences for academic life, and offers recommendations to university leaders for monitoring their faculty workforce.

Says faculty member and General Faculty Organization Chair Bruce Kochis, “The 21st century will most likely see profound changes in the make-up of the professoriate and the student body, resulting in changes in the campus culture of teaching, research, and service. Cross and Goldenberg’s book is a significant analysis and argument in how this logic will play out in the everyday work we do. I encourage all to join us.”

The event is free and open to the public. RSVP to vcaa@uwb.edu.
