Composers’ Workshop, Symphonic Band concert coming from School of Music

Student composers will present original works and the UW Symphonic Band will play in events coming from the School of Music.


Student composers will present original works in the Composers’ Workshop, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 5, in Brechemin Auditorium. The program will include I Think I Want to Be Myself, a work for recorded voices, instruments, and algorithms by Richard Johnson; and Paths, a short work for solo timpani by Abby Aresty. Chris Lennard, on timpani, will be the featured performer.


The UW Symphonic Band, under the direction of Steven Morrison, will present a series of chamber works for winds and percussion in the Symphonic Band Concert, at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, March 7, in Brechemin Auditorium.


Program selections include movements from Household Music, by Vaughan Williams, Tower Music and Symphony No. 17 for Metal Orchestra, by Alan Hovhaness, Quintet No. 1, by Victor Ewald, and Little Threepenny Music, by Kurt Weill.
