School of Music offers guitar selections Feb. 28, and Schumann music March 1

The UW School of Music will offer a program of guitar music on Feb. 28, and will celebrate Robert Schumann, and others, in voice on March 1.


UW faculty member Michael Partington will be joined by a diverse cast of colleagues in a program of gems from the chamber repertoire for guitar in Guitar Plus!, a faculty recital at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 28, in Brechemin Auditorium.


The recital will include music ranging from Boccherini to Takemitsu. Featuring faculty members will be Joyce Guyer, soprano; Ron Patterson, violin; Donna Shin, flute; and Carole Terry, harpsichord; with special guest Kevin Callahan on guitar.


The program will include Grand Potpourri, Op. 53 for violin and guitar by Mauro Giuliani; Sonata for solo guitar by Leo Brouwer, selections from Letters from Composers, for voice and guitar by Dominick Argento, Introduction and Fandango for harpsichord and guitar by Luigi Boccherini, Rumanian Folk Dances for flute and guitar by Bela Bartok, Variations from Op. 18, for two guitars, by Johannes Brahms, Anacleto de Madeiros for two guitars by Radames Gnattali (2 guitars and Zita for two guitars, by Astor Piazzolla.

Then on March 1, students of Thomas Harper, Joyce Guyer and Jane Eaglen will commemorate the 200th anniversary of Robert Schumann’s birth with a program of works by Schumann, Gustav Mahler, and Hugo Wolf in the Voice Division Recital, at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 1, in Brechemin Auditorium.
