Double bassist, organist to perform on Feb. 21

Seattle Symphony Orchestra double bassist Jordan Anderson will perform original compositions and the Concerto for Doublebass by Eduard Tubin at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 21, in Brechemin Auditorium. The concert is part of the Barry Lieberman & Friends series.


Anderson also will lead a free master class with Lieberman’s double bass students at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, also in Brechemin Auditorium.


Anderson has been principal bass of the Seattle Symphony since 2000. He has performed as soloist with Seattle Symphony, Seattle Chamber Orchestra and the Cascade Symphony. He also is a regular participant with the Seattle Chamber Music Society.


In his recital, Anderson also will play Drafts, a work which won him the award for best original composition at the International Society of Bassists convention. His recital will be followed by a question and answer period.


Tickets for the recital are $10, cash or check at the door.

Also performing on Feb. 21 is William Peterson, professor of music and college organist at Pomona College in Claremont, California. Peterson will perform organ works by German, Dutch, and Italian composers of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, including Samuel Scheidt, Heinrich Scheidemann, Girolamo Frescobaldi, Dieterich Buxtehude, and J.S. Bach. His concert is at 3 p.m. in the Walker-Ames Room, Kane. Tickets are $10, cash or check at the door.
