UW bands unite for ‘Songs and Dances for Band’

The UW symphonic, concert and campus bands will perform Thursday, Feb. 18, in an evening of music called Songs and Dances for Band.


Steven Morrison, associate professor of music education, will conduct as the Symphonic Band plays Symphony for Winds and Percussion by Joseph Downing. Eric Smedley will then conduct as the band plays three Ives songs, followed by Alison Farley conducting as the band plays pieces by Warren Benson and Dimitri Shostakovich.


Vu Nguyen and Kirsten Cummings will next conduct the Concert Band as it plays Merry Music by Frigyes Hidas, Song for Lyndsay by Andrew Boysen and Incantation and Dance by John Barnes Chance.


Finally, Gary Brattin and Ethan Chessin will conduct the Campus Band as it plays Pagan Dances by James Barnes and Psalm for Band by Vincent Persichetti.
