International students strut their stuff at CulturalFest

On Wednesday, Nov. 18, the campus community is invited to join the Foundation for International Understanding Through Students for the 10th annual CulturalFest, a showcase of the UW’s international student population. CulturalFest is produced by the FIUTS Student Board.

UW international students and scholars from more than 40 countries, representing every region of the world, will teach visitors about their cultures through interactive booths, displays and performances, not to mention ordinary conversation. Each country booth will display cultural items such as arts and crafts, photographs, maps, traditional dress, textiles or music.

More than 550 local third-, fourth- and fifh-graders from eight Seattle area schools will participate in this year’s CulturalFest as a part of school-sponsored field trips. This is more than double the number of elementary school participants CulturalFest has seen in the past years and represents an increasing emphasis on global education in the classroom.

FIUTS CulturalFest will be from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the HUB Ballroom. It is free and open to the public. For more information, call 206-543-0735 or visit www.fiuts.org/culturalfest.
