Answer the call to service: Sign up to lead a project for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service

In honor of the ideals of Martin Luther King, Jr., the Carlson Center is coordinating the ninth Annual MLK, Jr. Day of Service, scheduled for Monday, Jan. 18, 2010.

Each year on the MLK, Jr. Day of Service, UW students, staff, faculty, alumni, family and friends serve organizations across King County by beautifying transitional housing facilities, clearing invasive plant growth in Seattle’s natural habitats, improving neighborhood parks, sorting donated food and clothing, cleaning, painting, and doing outreach for Earned Income Tax Credit programs. Participation has grown each year, last year reaching 1,400 volunteers.

Project Leaders are needed to help make the day a communitywide success. As a project leader, you can recruit your own service team or open your project to meet new people. The commitment is minimal and you’ll be rewarded with stronger relationships and a demonstrated commitment to our community.

Sign up now at the Carlson Center Web site or e-mail Matt Wojciakowski, the center’s community engagement coordinator, with questions at mattwojo@u.washington.edu.

Project Leader trainings will be held Nov. 2-10. Read about last year’s MLK, Jr. Day of Service and watch a short video <A href=”http://www.washington.edu/uaa/textpattern47/tp/features/33/carlson-center-day-of-service-short-video-and-links-to-media-articles-exploring”>here.
