Genome Sciences hosts public lecture series in July

The UW Department of Genome Sciences will present its summer public lecture series, Wednesday Evenings at the Genome, in July. Presentations begin at 8 p.m. in the Foege Building Auditorium, room S-060, followed by refreshments at 9 p.m.

The lecture series is free and the general public is especially encouraged to attend. These informative discussions require no background knowledge in genetics or other biological subjects and provide great opportunities to chat with UW presenters.

Scientists taking part in the Lecture series are

July 8 Evan Eichler, associate professor of genome sciences, The Changing Human Genome: Disease and Evolution

July 15 Richard Palmiter, professor of biochemistry, Using Genetics to Understand Body Weight Regulation

July 22 Malia Fullerton, assistant professor of bioethics and humanities, Genetics and Ethics

July 29 Dan Gottschling, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center affiliate professor of genome sciences, Aging and Cancer: Clues from the Wine Bottle

The Department of Genome Sciences has played an important role in determining the sequence of 3 billion letters of DNA specifying human hereditary information and is one of the leading centers where the human genome is being interpreted and where new technologies for this analysis are being developed.
