Two McCabes and a Sheppard team for ‘Triple Play’ concert April 30

UW School of Music faculty artists Robin McCabe and Craig Sheppard, joined by Rachelle McCabe, director of piano studies at Oregon State University (and Robin’s sister), will alternate in dynamic duo-piano performances in Triple Play, a concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 30, in Meany Theater.

The program consists of Pavane for a Dead Princess and La Valse, by Ravel; Symphonic Dances from West Side Story, by Leonard Bernstein; Sonata for Two Pianos in D Major, by Mozart; and Recuerdos, by UW alumnus William Bolcom.

Both Robin and Rachelle McCabe earned their bachelor’s degrees at the UW School of Music and master’s degrees at Juilliard. Robin went on for a doctorate at Juiliard and later taught there, while Rachelle earned her doctorate at the University of Michigan. Robin McCabe has been the director of the UW School of Music since 1994.

Sheppard is the Donald E. Petersen Endowed Professor of Piano at the School of Music. During his UW tenure, he completed a series of concerts in which he played all 32 of the Beethoven sonatas, and has also performed the complete Ėtudes of Chopin, Rachmaninoff, and Debussy.

Tickets for the concert are $15 ($10 for students and seniors) and are available at the Arts Ticket Office, 206-543-4880, or online at www.music.washington.edu.

There will be a pre-concert conversation led by Music History Professor Larry Starr from 6:45 to 7:15 p.m. in the Meany West Lobby. A ticket to the evening’s performance is required for admittance.
