Faculty recital: Marc Seales Jazz Piano

UW Jazz Studies Professor Marc Seales will perform a faculty recital at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 13, in Brechemin Auditorium.

Seales will be joined by special guests Fred Hamilton on guitar, Gary Hobbs on drums, Chuck Deardorf on bass and Cuong Vu on trumpet. Together they will perform original works from Seales’ new CD The Paris Suite and from Seales’ upcoming recording American Songs.

Seales is well known in the Puget Sound area for his many appearances in jazz venues. He has played with nearly every visiting jazz celebrity from Joe Henderson and Art Pepper to Benny Carter, Mark Murphy, and Bobby Hutcherson. With Don Lanphere he performed in such places as London, England; Kobe, Japan; The Hague in the Netherlands; and the North Sea Jazz Festival. “Playing with all those guys was like going to school for me,” Seales says.

At the forefront of the Northwest jazz scene for many years, Seales has been collecting rave reviews. He has been praised variously for his “meaty piano solos,” and “blues inflected, Hancock-inspired modernism.”

Tickets are $10, cash or check at the door. For more information, call 206-685-8384 or visit online at www.music.washington.edu.
